Support & FAQ
Everything you need to get started and troubleshoot.
Getting started
Create a Nuki Web API token
Go to web.nuki.io, sign in, and navigate to API. Click "Generate API token" and copy the token.
Find your Smart Lock ID
In the Nuki Web dashboard, go to Devices and click on your smart lock. The number in the URL is your Smart Lock ID (e.g.
https://web.nuki.io/#/smartlock/123456789).Enter credentials in the app
Open NuKey Auto, tap the gear icon to open Settings, and paste your API token and Smart Lock ID. Tap "Save Settings".
Use in Android Auto
Connect your phone to your car. NuKey Auto appears in the Android Auto app launcher. Tap it to see your lock status and control your door.
Frequently asked questions
I see "Invalid API token. Check your settings."
Your API token is incorrect or has expired. Go to web.nuki.io > API, generate a new token, and paste it in the app's Settings. Make sure there are no extra spaces before or after the token.
I see "Smart Lock not found. Check your ID."
The Smart Lock ID you entered doesn't match any lock on your Nuki account. Double-check the number in the URL when you view your lock at web.nuki.io. It should be a numeric ID like 123456789.
I see "No connection. Check your internet."
The app can't reach the Nuki Web API. Check your internet connection. If you're on a company or hotel Wi-Fi, it may block API traffic. Try switching to mobile data.
I see "Too many requests. Try again later."
You've hit the Nuki Web API rate limit. Wait a minute and try again. This can happen if you refresh the status very frequently.
I see "Motor blocked!"
Your smart lock's motor is jammed. This usually means something is physically blocking the lock mechanism. Check your door and lock, then try again from the app.
What does the door open delay do?
When you tap "Open door", the app waits the configured number of seconds before sending the open command. This gives you time to walk from your car to your front door before it opens. Set it in Settings > Door open delay. Changed your mind? Tap Cancel during the countdown, on your phone or in Android Auto, and the door stays closed.
Does the app work without Android Auto?
Yes. The app works as a standalone phone app too. You get the same lock status, battery info, and controls on your phone screen.
Which Nuki locks are supported?
Any Nuki smart lock that is connected to the Nuki Web API. This includes Nuki Smart Lock 1.0, 2.0, 3.0 (Pro), and 4.0, as long as they have a Nuki Bridge or Wi-Fi module connected to Nuki Web.
Is my data safe?
Your API token and Smart Lock ID are stored encrypted on your device using Android's hardware-backed KeyStore. They are never sent anywhere except to the official Nuki Web API. The app collects no analytics, no tracking data, and contains no ads. See our Privacy Policy for full details.
The app doesn't show up in Android Auto
Make sure NuKey Auto is installed and that Android Auto is up to date. On your phone, go to Android Auto settings > "Customize launcher" and check that NuKey Auto is enabled. Restart Android Auto if needed.
